file2021238176025I have an adult student who is recovering from extensive shoulder surgery. So, I started researching late intermediate pieces for the LH that would satisfy her. I came across a variety of resources and thought they would be best shared. And, here they are!

Piano Music for the Left Hand Alone: Hans Brofeldt

This site contains a catalogue of over 700 composers with stories about the composers and their music. You can find original compositions and arrangements, including music of Dennis Alexander, several Bach boys, Nicolai Kapustin, Peter Schickele, and Carl Reinecke. It is an interactive database and one that has been in progress for some time judging from the graphics and non-menu navigation. (Scroll down to the alphabet graphic click on a letter to get to the catalogue. Use the back button to return to the homepage.) You can contact Dr. Brofeldt with questions or pieces to be added to his database.

IMSLP Library List of Works for LH Only

You can view these scores right from this page. There are links to purchase recordings and scores for works that are not in the public domain. There seem to be a few broken links in this list. I clicked on the the Bach and Chopin and did not find anything for piano LH alone there.

The Piano Education Page: Repertoire for Piano One Hand

There are some great pieces here. Some of these can be played by either hand alone so don’t feel bound by the categories. I was confused by the heading for piano and orchestra but then realized it was some kind of error in the middle of the LH list. Just ignore it.

Piano Music For One Hand: Theodore Edel

A comprehensive volume of music for one hand. Information on difficulty and length are included.

LeftHandPianoMusic.org

This is a relatively new site collecting repertoire, performances, audio & video in one place. The most interesting thing to me is that there will be practice arrangements of great music for one hand. The one available now is Schumann’s Traumerei. The downloads and sound files are available in Japan now with international access coming soon.
