file3781288474089I’ve made some new finds and friends around the blogosphere lately that I would like to share with you this week. Enjoy!

A Single Noon & In a Time Lapse

For those up to their eyeballs in events driven by the standard classical repertoire (as I am at the moment), A Single Noon by Gregg Kallor and In a Time Lapse by Ludovico Einaudi might just provide the refreshing breath of fresh air that you need to keep your sanity. (although it might be too late for me…)

A Single Noon is “a musical tableau of New York life told through a combination of composed music and improvisation.” The music moves from contemplative, to frenetic, to empty, to joyful, to delicate, to roaring. Rhythms conjure up that glorious mix of ethnicity and musical genre that is New York. You can watch a video Gregg posted of the deliciously humorous Espresso Nirvana here.

In a Time Lapse is just about as polar opposite as you can get. Piano, acoustics, and electronics blend here for an experience of pure nature.  Billed as alternative classical, the album was written in a monastery near Verona. From the tenderness of Corale to the minimalist patterns of Waterways there is something evocative and quite catching about this music. Here’s a video of Ludovico previewing the album.

Diary of a Piano Mama

Check out this blog from Australian Mom Gina, who works for Hal Leonard AU. I got a kick out of this view of what really happens at home from practice to avoiding practice (and teeth brushing), to creative interpretations of practice.

Google+ Communities

I finally bit the bullet and joined Google+ this week. There are two active piano communities there that are worth a look. And, who knows, maybe a Piano Addict Community or Hangout lies in our own futures???
