We had a great time in the Denver area. It is lovely there at the foot of the Rockies and as an added bonus it isn’t 100+ degrees. We didn’t get to go to Aspen but we did get to listen to several concerts, as well as interviews with Jean-Yves Thibaudet and Steven Osbourne on Colorado Public Radio. Host Monika Vischer was in residence at the festival last week and it was exciting to hear her talk with performers, students, and teachers. You can read her blog about the residency here.

Along with the beautiful outdoors that Colorado is famous for, we visited the Denver Art Museum and walked around downtown. We even found the building that housed the candy factory (now a historic condo development) where my Great-Great-Grandfather worked and my Great-Grandfather fell down the elevator shaft and lived to tell the tale and the schoolyard were my other Great-Grandfather’s home and bicycle shop, Uhrie and Son, once stood. The Moore School was built in the 1800’s and my Grandmother went to school there. i’ll bet she would have a thing or two to say about that schoolyard!

Lo and Behold, along 16th Street there were pianos in the pedestrian median and on sidewalks. I heard everything from Bach to Boogie to Rachmaninoff. Actually, in a very John Cage moment, I spied a person using the piano as an impromptu study space.
